37 games unbeaten and France standing in the way: Spain are 90 minutes from making history

On a 37-game unbeaten run, Spain face France in Dallas and could become the most unbeaten national team in football history.

Spain have not lost an official match since June 2023. That's 37 games, 30 wins, seven draws, 96 goals scored. A machine. And on Tuesday, in Dallas, they face the one side that could bring it all to a halt: France.

The problem for the French? They have already tried twice during this run — and lost both times. In the semi-final of Euro 2024, Spain won 2–1. In the 2025 Nations League, they won 5–4. France knows this opponent well. And knows exactly how much it hurts.

According to ge, citing data from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the current unbeaten streak is already the longest in Spain's history — and could be the longest of any national team in the world. The federation points to Italy going 31 games without defeat. UEFA, however, recognises an Italian run of 37 matches between 2018 and 2021, with exactly the same numbers: 30 wins and seven draws. A dead heat, then — for now.

A win over France puts Spain alone at the top of the history books. A defeat ends the streak, but cannot erase what has already been built.

Their semi-final record adds further weight. In ten semi-finals since 2008, Spain have been eliminated just once — against Italy at Euro 2020, on penalties. In the last six, they have advanced every time. And this will be only the second World Cup semi-final in Spanish history: the first, in 2010, ended with a trophy.

Golmetria's model gives Spain a 35.13% chance of being crowned champions — the highest probability of any team still in the competition.

Dallas, Tuesday, 4 p.m. (Brasília time). History or elimination. There is no middle ground.
