Ferran Torres, the Foios-born forward who found the net at the most decisive moment of Spain's campaign in the United States, will sign an agreement with the Generalitat Valenciana to become the official image of the Comunitat Valenciana. The ceremony takes place this Friday at the Palau de la Generalitat in Valencia, with a reception hosted by president Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca.
The proposal came from the regional government itself. The idea is to have Torres promote the region at major events, trade fairs and institutional initiatives — with the forward as the standard-bearer of the Valencian people. He accepted. It makes sense: anyone who followed the player knows the Senyera, the Valencian flag, was rarely far from the celebrations throughout the tournament.
Before the official reception, Torres wrapped up a promotional tour of the USA — the country that hosted the World Cup — in partnership with Under Armour. He appeared on high-rating television programmes and even threw a ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium, home to one of the most famous sports franchises in the world.
After the Generalitat, the next stop is the most personal of all: Foios, his hometown, where local supporters are already preparing a tribute to welcome him back.
