Fayza Lamari means business. The mother of Kylian Mbappé — who oversees the family's football operations — made a decision that turned heads at Caen: she banned mobile phones inside the French club's training centre.

The news came from Mathieu Bodme, the club's new sporting director, in an interview with L'Équipe. He not only confirmed the measure but praised it without hesitation. "It's a fantastic decision," Bodme declared, according to ge. He says the impact is already visible in the squad's daily life: "The players are talking to each other again, spending more time together and interacting much more."

Caen belongs to Coalition Capital, an investment fund managed by Mbappé's family, which bought the club in July 2024 for around €15 million. The start of their ownership, however, was turbulent: the team was relegated to the third tier of French football in a season when they were considered one of the favourites to earn promotion to Ligue 1. The European press treated the drop as a failure.

Bodme went on the offensive to defend the family. "I think the criticism is unfair," he said, arguing that the club's problems predated the new owners' arrival. He went further: "Money doesn't guarantee immediate results. You need to build a solid structure, develop players, cultivate an identity."

While Caen tries to climb back to Ligue 2, Mbappé carries the weight of leading France towards the World Cup. Golmetria's model gives the French a 1.32% chance of lifting the trophy — well below what the market suggests, with an implied probability of 14.71%. A gap that says a great deal about the expectations surrounding the superstar.

On and off the pitch, the Mbappé family is building something. Whether it will work, time — and results — will tell.
