World Cup's Best Player Has a Preferred Destination — and Real Madrid Want to Pounce
European press reports Real Madrid are preparing an offer of up to R$ 347M for Rodri, who has reportedly already turned down a new deal at City.
Rodri lifted the World Cup trophy as the tournament's best player. Now, his future may be about to change address — and Real Madrid want to be that address.
According to ge, citing Italian journalist Nicolò Schira and Spanish outlets including Marca, the Spanish giants are preparing an offer of between 50 and 60 million euros for the Manchester City midfielder — somewhere between R$ 290 million and R$ 347 million.
The backdrop is favourable for Real. According to the Spanish press, Rodri has already turned down a contract extension at City and reportedly has the Santiago Bernabéu as his preferred destination. More than that: there are reports that the player already has a personal agreement in place to sign with the Spanish club through June 2030, should negotiations between the clubs progress.
The sticking point is the price. City have Rodri under contract until June 2027 — which, in theory, gives them bargaining power. But if the midfielder holds firm on his refusal to renew, that leverage fades with time.
PSG have also entered the race, but the European press points out that Rodri's own desire to play at the Bernabéu puts Real in pole position.
Worth remembering: the world champion arrived at the World Cup after a serious ACL injury at the start of the 2024/25 season and an inconsistent campaign that followed. He peaked at exactly the right moment — and was decisive.
